Khopra Ridge trek is one of the most beautiful trekking route for Annapurna and Dhaulagiri View.  Khopra Ridge trek is wonderful hiking journey through the Jungle and cozy tea house lodges along the route.  After being in the well trekked trail for few days and then our route diverts on the least frequented and trekked area up to Khopra Ridge or Khair lake. Khair Lake ridge is for awesome views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Vara Shikar and Annapurna mountain range and then with optional walk to holy Vara Pokhari or Khair Lake in one of the most unique destination. This trek leads from warm subtropical zone of mid hills to Himalayan alpine climate zone.

Ace Hiking offers trek for amazing views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri from Khopra Ridge. On this Khopra Ridge or Khair Lake Trek you can view Annapurna I (8,091 m / 26,545 ft), Annapurna South (7,219 m/ 23,693 ft), Gangapurna (7,455 m / 24,457 ft), Annapurna III (7,555 m / 24,787 ft), including Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) at 6,997 m stretches up towards world’s 7th highest Mt. Dhaulagiri 8,167 m and  8th Mt. Manaslu at 8,163 m and more peaks.

This trek leads through many traditional Gurung and Poon Magar villages famous as Gurkha soldiers.

This remarkable Khopra Ridge trek starts and ends in the scenic valley at Pokhara city where the high snow capped peaks reflects in its serene lake Phewa.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft above sea level), transfer to hotel

Welcome to Nepal Himalaya, we meet in Kathmandu airport and will be transferred to your hotel. Ace Hiking offers welcome dinner in authentic Nepalese restaurant. Overnight at hotel, dinner included.

Day 2Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing

Kathmandu valley sightseeing tour will start after breakfast. We will visit four UNESCO world heritage sites. Heritage site tour includes the Pashupatinath temple, Boudha Stupa, Swoyambhu stupa and Kathmandu Durbar Square. You will get opportunity to obsearve historical, religious and cultural aspect of Nepal. You will also see Nepalese architecture containing palaces, buildings, temples, Stupas, carving, mason and metal work. Overnight at hotel, breakfast included.

Day 3Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (820 m / 2,690 ft) 6-7 hours

Pokhara is a beautiful touristic city with Mountain View. We will take tourist bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara for 7 hours. Overnight at hotel, breakfast included.

Day 4Drive to Nayapul (1.5 hours) and trek to Tikhedhunga (1,540 m / 5,050 ft) 4-5 hours

We will take private vehicle to Nayapul. It is 45 km far from pokhara, takes 1 hour 30 min drive. After Nayapul we will start trek to Tikhedhunga. We have to cross Modi River and follow to Bhrungdi River. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 5Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2,860 m / 9,383 ft) 6-7 hours

The trek begins with thousands of steps up hill to Ulleri. Ulleri is a big Magar ethnic village. We pass waterfalls, small villages, and tea-houses before reaching Ghorepani. We will stay at Ghorepani Deurali, at the saddle with 8000 meters Mountains View. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 6Morning hike to Poon Hill and trek to Sauta 2,421 m, 5 hrs.

Early morning, before dawn an hour hike up to Poon Hill at 3,210m this wonderful hill top offers fantastic sunrise views over the mountain range from Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Annapurna to Manaslu and the stunning Mt. Machhapuchhre “The Fish Tail” one of the most respected and unclimbed peak. After enjoying the lovely panorama of mountains and landscapes scenery walk continues after Ghorepani towards Chitre village and then on the off route to Khair area, after being on the main path for a while our leads to Sauta village in complete isolation from the popular route, from Chitre village a short distance walk to a lovely farm village at Sauta for overnight stop.

Day 7Trek to Chistibung 3,000 m, 5 hrs.

Starting with a slow gradual morning walk on off beaten trail passing farm fields and scattered villages, trekking north leading through enchanting serene rhododendron and bamboo forest, then a slow climb into woodlands following the route to Khair ridge, walk leads by a small stream then with an uphill through meadow and summer pastures to Chistibung for overnight stop, a small place with few small huts serving as tea-houses.

Day 8Trek to Khair or Khopra Ridge 3,870 m, 3 hrs.

Today’s walk for few hours to our final destination at Khair ridge also called Khopra Danda, from this place gaining more altitude leaving behind the tree lines only for alpine bushes and shrubs, around this place chances of seeing some wildlife like Himalayan Thar, the Danphe Pheasant (National Bird of Nepal). Morning after few hours of scenic walk finally reaching at overnight stop at Khair or Khopra ridge, a scenic picturesque spot with awesome scenery of surrounding green landscapes along with stunning views of Mt. Dhaulagiri massive range and Vara Shikar (Annapurna Fang), Annapurna South which towers directly from this wonderful spot.

Day 9Khopra Ridge to holy Khair lake (optional).

A grand wonderful spot for a rest or free day, being here will be an awesome experience for sporty and energetic optional hike to holy lake at Khair Lake located 4,247 m. which is long and strenuous walk, but worth the views, the site of religious festival occasion held annually around the month of August and September. Villagers from the surrounding area assemble here to offer prayers to Lord Shiva and bathe in the icy waters, offers sacrifices of sheep and goats.

Day 10Trek to Dobato 3,420 m, 5 hrs.

After a great time at Khair ridge top, morning walk leads to a long descend towards east through grazing lands in the middle of rhododendron forest, from Khair a long downhill walk reaching back to tree lines and towards our overnight stop at Dobato a summer pasture a grazing land for the local Sheppard’s with striking views of Annapurna South and Mt. Machhapuchare 6,997 m.

Day 11Trek to Ghandruk 1,950 m, 5 hrs.

With the grand morning views of the snow capped mountains in total wilderness our walk continues on the gradual downhill trail into forest of rhododendron, oak and magnolia, then reaching the main trekking route of Ghandruk and Ghorepani trail at Tadapani, after a short stop trek descends to Ghandruk. We explore the largest Gurung village of this region. The Ghandruk village have long tradition of supplying some of the finest soldiers in the Gurkha Regiment to both the British and Indian armies. Ghandruk a fascinating village perched in a beautiful location; here you will have opportunity to chat with ex-Gurkha soldiers who are only pleased to discuss their association with the British and Indian armies, here above the village provides stunning views.

Day 12Trek to Pothana 1,900 m, 5 hrs.

After a nice time at Ghandruk village, morning walk on the downhill for an hour to Modi River, then over the bridge with gradual walk and a short climb reaches to Landruk village, after brief time here continue walk on the long winding trail through terraced farm fields and villages then reaching in a small cool forested area, from here an uphill walk for 40 minutes to Deurali ridge at 2,150 m. After Deurali a nice pleasant walk through forest with grand views of Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Manaslu including the Fish Tail peak all the way to Pothana village is reached for overnight stay located in the middle of alpine forest with fantastic views of the snow capped mountains and valley.

Day 13Trek to Kande and drive to Pokhara.

Morning with superb views leads to a short up through cool forest at Thulo Kharka also known as Australian Camp a wonderful spot in the midst of the forest with large meadows overlooking magnificent views of the Himalayan range of mountains, after a short break here the last hour walk an easy descend to Kande village on the road head that connects Baglung-Pokhara, from here an hour drive back to Pokhara after a wonderful time up in the high mountains.

Day 14Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft) 6-7 hours

Today in the morning we get tourist bus for Kathmandu. Ace Hiking offers farewell dinner in authentic Nepalese restaurant. Overnight at hotel, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 15Departure to international airport

Today you grab last minute shopping or other activities. We will drop you at the Kathmandu international airport 3 hours before your scheduled flight. We will say goodbye with happy memories and hoping to see you again. Breakfast included.
