Trip Details

Gokyo valley is very beautiful; rich in flora and fauna, eight thousand mountains view, many beautiful lakes and the biggest glacier of Nepal. There are many great views around the valley. Gokyo Ri is the best view point of this trek at the height of 5,360 meters / 17585 ft. We can see four eight-thousand meter mountains: Mt. Everest (8,848 m / 29,029 ft), Lhotse (8,516 m / 27,940 ft), Mt. Makalu (8,463 m / 27,766 ft) and Cho Oyu (8,201 m / 26906 ft).

Gokyo lake trek starts with the thrilling and adventures short flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. We will reach big settlement Namche Bazaar. After Namche, the trail leads up towards Mong La and further trail passes through rhododendron and pine forests and waterfalls which are often frozen then we will reach Dole. From Dole, we will pass a few tea shops before reaching Machhermo. The valley that leads west above Machhermo is worth a visit, and can be done in the afternoon. The valley is dominated by the unclimbed Mt. Kyojo Ri. The final trail up to Gokyo lake goes passing teahouses at Phang and up the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa glacier, which is the largest glacier of Nepal.

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft), transfer to hotel

Welcome to Nepal Himalaya, we meet in Kathmandu airport and you will be transferred to your hotel. Ace Hiking offers welcome dinner in an authentic Nepalese restaurant. Overnight at hotel, dinner included.

Day 2Fly to Lukla (2,840 m / 9,318 ft) trek to Phakding (2,610 m / 8,563 ft) Distance: 8 km / 5 miles, Duration: 3 - 4 hours

We will be transferred to the airport to fly to Lukla. We may enjoy the views from the airplane windows; the Lukla flight is quite fascinating. We will start easy hiking to Phakding. We can see beautiful mountain Kusum Kangaru from Thadokoshi village. We will see beautiful valley, Sherpa village, monastery, Chorten, prayer flags, Mani and a few mountains. Phakding lies in the Dudh Kosi river valley. Overnight at a guesthouse, breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.

Day 3Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,286 ft) Distance: 11 km / 7 miles, Duration: 5 - 6 hours

This day, we will trek from Phakding through Monju, ending up in the big and beautiful town Namche Bazaar. The trekking trail follows along the Dudhkoshi River and enters into Sagarmatha National Park. After crossing the bridge over Dudhkoshi River at the junction of Dudhkoshi River and Bhotekoshi River, the trail leads all the way up to Namche. There are many big lodges, hotels and restaurant, bakery cafe, book shop, trekking shop, souvenir shop, internet, communication, post office, laundry service, massage center, airline sales agent, Monastery, Museum, National Park Headquarter, Police office, Army post, Commercial Bank, Helipad etc. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 4Acclimatization day, Hike to Syangboche and back to Namche Bazaar, Duration: 4-5 hours

Acclimatization is important before proceeding to higher places. Most trekkers spend two nights in Namche. We may not feel bored, can visit Hotel Everest View located in Syangboche, for panoramic Mountain View including Mt. Everest. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 5Namche Bazaar to Phortse (3,810 m/ 12,500 ft) Distance: 7 km / 4.3 miles, Duration: 5 - 6 hours

We hike easy flat way to Kenjuma. After Kenjuma the trail separates between Everest base Camp and Gokyo valley. We follow the left one which leads gradual up to Mong La hill. From Mong La the way is vertical down to Dudh Koshi River and after crossing the river trail ascends to Phortse village. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 6Phortse Village to Dole (4,200 m / 13,780 ft) Distance: 6 km / 3.7 miles, Duration: 5 - 6 hours

This day is pleasant walk through rhododendron and oak forest. Our hike begins with descending trail to Dudh Koshi River and after crossing the river all the way up to Dole. We may get opportunity to observe wildlife like musk deer, Mountain goat, Impeyan pheasant and many birds. We will see water fall and hanging ice on the rock. Many types of colorful flowers bloom in spring season. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 7Dole to Machhermo (4,470 m / 14,665 ft) Distance: 6 km / 3.7 miles, Duration: 4 - 5 hours

We have to ascent up to Lhabarma. After Lhabarma, the trail is gradual up to Luza and then Machhermo. We will see close view of many mountains. Machhermo itself is a beautiful valley dominating Machhermo Khola (river). There are a few lodges for overnight. Everyday there is altitude talk in Machhermo porter shelter and aid post. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 8Machhermo to Gokyo Valley (4,790 m / 15,715 ft) Distance: 7 km / 4.3 miles, Duration: 4 - 5 hours

The valley is widening as the trail passes through Phang, where an avalanche killed 40 people in 1995. We descend shortly to the riverbank before climbing to the Frist Lake. Upon crossing an iron bridge over a stream, we enter to Gokyo valley. Further we hike continue to second lake and third lake. Gokyo village stands by the third lake and Cho Oyu Mountain as a backdrop. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 9Gokyo Valley: Climb Gokyo Ri (5,357 m/17,575 ft) and hike to fifth lakes (optional) Duration: 6 - 7 hours

Early in the morning we will climb Gokyo Ri to capture the view of panoramic mountains and Gokyo valley. This is a great opportunity to see together four mountains above eight thousands meters. After return back from Gokyo Ri, we will have breakfast and we hike to fourth lake about 3 km north of Gokyo, can further continue to fifth. In fifth lake there is a popular view point known as Scoundrel’s Viewpoint. Today whole day we will enjoy in Gokyo valley with majestic view of Himalayas and the biggest glacier of Nepal. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 10Gokyo to Phortse Tenga (3,680 m / 12,073 ft) Distance: 17 km / 10.5 miles, Duration: 6 - 7 hours

Today we retrace all the way back down to Phortse Tenga. The trail is long but we will feel comfortable to descend. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 11Phortse Tenga to Monju (2,840 m / 9,318 ft) Distance: 11 km / 6.8 miles, Duration: 6 - 7 hours

We climb 1:30 hour to Mom La hill and easy walk to Namche Bazaar. After Namche Bazaar we continue hike down to Monju. Today we exit from the Sagarmatha National Park. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 12Monju to Lukla (2,840 m / 9,318 ft) Distance: 11 km / 6.8 miles, Duration: 6 - 7 hours

We will trek to Lukla, passing through several local villages. Today is our last night in the mountains. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 13Morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, Day time free

We will fly back to Kathmandu, and you will be transferred to your hotel. You are free for rest after conquering the Himalayas. Overnight at hotel, breakfast included.

Day 14Kathmnadu Valley Sightseeing

Kathmandu valley sightseeing tour will start after breakfast. We will visit four UNESCO world heritage sites in Kathmandu. Heritage site tour includes the Pashupatinath temple, Boudha Stupa, Swoyambhu stupa and Kathmandu Durbar Square. You will get the opportunity to observe historical, religious and cultural aspect of Nepal. You will also see Nepalese architecture containing palaces, buildings, temples, Stupas, carving, mason and metal work. After the tour we will back to hotel. Ace Hiking offers a farewell dinner in an authentic Nepalese restaurant. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 15Departure to international airport

Today you grab last minute shopping or other activities. We will drop you at the Kathmandu international airport 3 hours before your scheduled flight. We will say goodbye with happy memories and hoping to see you again. Breakfast included.
