Mundum Trail, also known as the Kirat Rai Cultural Trail, is a newly opened cultural and natural trekking trail in Eastern Nepal. Salpa Silichung is the best viewpoint. The term Mundum or Mundhum is an orally based cultural practice of the Kirat community. The trail passes through the settlements of the Kirat people. The name Mundum highlights the cultural experience of the region in addition to exploring nature and the mountains.

The Mundum Trail goes up to the highest elevation of 4,153 meters from sea level to the viewpoint of Silichung Peak. The trail starts from Chakhewa Bhanjyang and passes through Dhotre, Maiyung (Hans Pokhari), Hyakule, Rawa Dhap, Salpa Bhanjyang (Kulupankha), and Silichung peak along the crest border of Bhojpur, Khotang, Solukhumbu, and Sankhuwasabha districts.

Rest Place in Mundum Trail

Nepal is famous not only for its beautiful mountains but also for its culture and traditions. The Mundum Trail offers a wonderful panoramic mountain view, green valleys, pasture land, and lush forests. The Mundum Trail is a cultural heritage of the Kirat Rai and Sherpa communities. We can see 5 mountains above 8,000 meters: Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and many mountains like Langtang, Dorje Lakpa, Numbur, Karyalung, Gaurishankar, Kongde, Kusum Kangaru, Thamserku, Khangtega, Kyasar, Mera Peak, Nuptse, Chamlang, and many more.

Mundum explains Kirat civilization, Kirat history, culture, customs, rituals, technology, language, etc. So, the Mundum Trail is a culturally, spiritually, and religiously important trail. This trail is also the best place to study about Shamans.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft), transfer to hotel

Welcome to Nepal Himalaya, we meet in Kathmandu airport and will be transferred to your hotel.

Day 2Sightseeing in Kathmandu, trek preparation

Kathmandu valley sightseeing tour will start after breakfast. We will visit 3 UNESCO world heritage sites. Heritage site tour includes Boudha Stupa, Swoyambhu stupa and Kathmandu Durbar Square. You will get opportunity to observe historical, religious and cultural aspect of Nepal. After sightseeing we do preparation for the trek.

Day 3Drive from Kathmandu to Halesi 1,355 m (8 hours)

Halesi is a destination for religious and cultural tourism. The Halesi Mahadev cave is situated at elevation of 1400 m from the sea level in Khotang district. We will take private vehicle from Kathmandu to Halesi for 8 hours. We will have lunch somewhere on the way. We will visit Halesi cave.

Day 4Drive to Chakhewa Bhanjyang 2,300 m (5 hours)

After breakfast, we will take vehicle to visit historical place and Mountain View point Tuwachung hill. We will visit Diktel Bazar and have lunch there. After lunch, we will continue drive towards Chakewa Bhanjyang.

Day 5Trek to Dhotre 2,752 m (6 hours)

After breakfast, Mundhum Trail starts from Chakhewa. Ace Hiking Guide will help you to reach your destination. We hike this Kirat cultural trail through Maluwa, Dalsinge,Merung Hill finally reach at Dhotre.

Day 6Trek to Maiyung (Hans Pokhari) 3,122 m (4 hours)

Today Trail is short and easy as well as full of views. You will pass more attraction then settlement. We will reach our camp at Maiyung or Hans Pokhari. Maiyung is popular for yak and horse pastureland.

Day 7Trek to Rawa Dhap 3,426 m (7 hours)

Today we will pass several beautiful places like Satdobato, Hyakule, Lauri Bina and reach our camp at Rawa Dhap. Rawa Dhap is origin of Rawa Khola (River) and Tap Khola (River). Today we will have beautiful mountains view as well.

Day 8Trek to Salpa Bhanjyang (Kulupankha) 3,348 m (4.5 hours)

Today we hike down to Nikasa and gradual up to Salpa Pass or Kulupankha Bhanjyang. We will cross many lakes, Mani Wall with beautiful view. Over Night at Salpa Pass or nearby Salpa Pokhari (Lake).

Day 9Explore Silichung Hill 4,153 m and around

Today we are going to reach highest point in the Mundum Trekking Trail Itinerary. We start hike early in the morning towards the Silichung Peak at 4,153 meter above sea level. The view from Silichung Peak is spectacular. We can see mountains like Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Cho Oyu and many mountains. Not only the Himalayas view, views of the deep valleys, green nature and layers of several hills make this place is the best and peaceful viewpoint.

Day 10Trek to Sibdu 2,700 m (7 hours)

After breakfast, we hike to Sibdu through the beautiful forest and hills. Our overnight will be in Sherpa village.

Day 11 Trek to Tap Khola 1,300 m ( 5hours)

Today is last day hiking, we hike all the way down to Rawa Khola and then straight way to Tap Khola. We will stay at the river bank of Tap Khola.

Day 12Drive to Kathmandu 1,400 m (10 hours)

Our private vehicle will be waiting there; we will reach Kathmandu today via Halesi by driving. Ace Hiking offers farewell dinner in authentic Nepalese restaurant.

Day 13Transfer to International airport

We will transfer you at the Kathmandu international airport 3 hours before your scheduled flight. We will say goodbye with happy memories and hoping to see you again.
