Everest Three Passes Trek Details

Everest Three Passes Trek is one of the most thrilling, fascinating and adventurous trip with a traverse of 3 high passes Renjo-la 5,388 m, Cho-la 5,380 m and Kongma-la passes 5,535 m. Everest Three High Passes is least trekked route in the second busiest trekking region after Annapurna area.

Everest Three Passes Trek leads through many traditional Sherpa villages famous as mountaineers and warm hospitality and has been a high altitude porters and guides since several decades in Khumbu valley.
This adventure trip starts from the small airstrip at Lukla and then towards least visited area at Thame, and then exploring Khumbu valley to cross Renjo-la and scenic Gokyo valley.

We hike continue towards the 2nd pass Cho-la to reach Everest Base Camp and climb of Kalapathar. Our highest point of this adventure trip is 5,545 m at Kalapathar and then last high pass of this trip over Khongma-la pass.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft), transfer to hotel

Welcome to Nepal Himalaya, we meet in Kathmandu airport and you will be transferred to your hotel. Ace Hiking offers welcome dinner in an authentic Nepalese restaurant. Overnight at hotel, dinner included.

Day 2Fly to Lukla (2,840 m / 9,318 ft) trek to Phakding (2,610 m / 8,563 ft) Distance: 8 km / 5 miles, Duration: 3 - 4 hours

We will be transferred to the airport to fly to Lukla. We may enjoy the views from the airplane windows; the Lukla flight is quite fascinating. We will start easy hiking to Phakding. We can see beautiful mountain Kusum Kangaru from Thadokoshi village. We will see beautiful valley, Sherpa village, monastery, Chorten, prayer flags, Mani and a few mountains. Phakding lies in the Dudh Kosi river valley. Overnight at a guesthouse, breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.

Day 3Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,286 ft) Distance: 11 km / 7 miles, Duration: 5 - 6 hours

This day, we will trek from Phakding through Monju, ending up in the big and beautiful town Namche Bazaar. The trekking trail follows along the Dudhkoshi River and enters into Sagarmatha National Park. After crossing the bridge over Dudhkoshi River at the junction of Dudhkoshi River and Bhotekoshi River, the trail leads all the way up to Namche. There are many big lodges, hotels and restaurant, bakery cafe, book shop, trekking shop, souvenir shop, internet, communication, post office, laundry service, massage center, airline sales agent, Monastery, Museum, National Park Headquarter, Police office, Army post, Commercial Bank, Helipad etc. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 4Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization

Acclimatization is important before proceeding to higher places. Most trekkers spend two nights in Namche. We may not feel bored, can visit Hotel Everest View located in Syangboche, for panoramic Mountain View including Mt. Everest. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 5Trek to Thame 3,880 m - 4 hrs

A good day walk with pleasant trail through enchanting forest of rhododendron, oaks and pines trees, then passing small farm villages following the Bhote Koshi River through Thamo village. Thame village is the birthplace of Tenzing Norgay (one of the first person to climb over Mt. Everest) and Apa Sherpa a record holder climbing 20th time on top of Mt. Everest. Thame village has one of the oldest monasteries of this region. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 6Trek to Marlung 4,137 m - 4 hrs

Morning with time visiting the Thame monastery then our journey begins towards the first pass of this high adventure, walk follows the path to Marlung village with Bhote Koshi River up streams, on route visiting villages of Thyangmoche and Hungmo, and then walk through complete wilderness with only few houses, huts and Sheppard’s pasture land, onwards walk leads to area with less vegetation on the way towards arctic like zone, finally the day walk reaches our overnight stop at Marlung after passing the village of Taranga, through yak field. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 7Trek to Lungden 4,600 m - 4 hrs

Journey continues with a morning walk to Lungden through old and authentic Himalayan villages blending well in this natural surrounding landscape; this is the old salt trade route between Nepal and Tibet, after leaving the route to Tibet trail heading north east, then walk for few hours to our overnight stop at Lungden. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 8Trek to Renjo- La 5,465 m descends to Gokyo 4,800 m - 7 hrs

From Lungden a Big Day! To cross the first high pass of this adventure, walk follows leading to frozen ponds beneath Renjo La pass, the route to the pass offers marvelous views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse and Taboche, and then crossing Renjo La pass at 5,465 m / 17,929 ft, one of the most difficult section of this adventure, on reaching the top with breathtaking panorama of Mt. Cho-Oyu and other high surrounding peaks, after enjoying the views, descend to reach the Gokyo valley for overnight stop in the comfort of a nice lodge overlooking Gokyo simmering emerald glacial lake. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 9Hike to Gokyo Ri at 5,330 m trek to Thangnag 4,750 m - 4 hrs

Early morning to catch the sunrise over the tall snow capped mountains at Gokyo Ri at 5,357 m one of the highest point of this wonderful trek, after a steep hard climb to the top with awesome panorama views of world’s highest mountains from Mt. Cho Oyo 8,201 m, straddling the border with Tibet along with Gyachung Kang, Mt. Everest 8,848 m world’s number one, then worlds fourth highest Mt. Lhotse 8,516 m, Cholatse, Taweche and to the east worlds 05th highest Mt. Makalu at 8,463 m. After return back to Gokyo, continue few hours journey trek to Thangnag crossing the glacier moraines. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 10Cross Cho-la 5,367m / 17,604 f and to Dzongla 4,850 m - 7 hrs

Today, another Big Day! To cross the high Cho-la pass after an early breakfast following the path leading to a steep up and then crossing the glacier on the eastern side. The top of the pass at an altitude of 5,367m and sometimes it will be quite challenging to traverse (in snow conditions), from the top it offers awesome views of giant mountains and of Cholatse Glacier then making descend carefully to a small lake on the way to Dzongla. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 11Trek to Lobuche 4,930 m - 5 hrs

Today’s walk to Lobuche will be much easier after the hard previous day, morning leaving Dzongla following the path that descends to yak herder’s summer pastures. Then the walk climbs up to terminal debris of Khumbu Glacier, and continues on the pleasant gradual path all the way to Lobuche. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 12Trek to Gorakshep 5,170 m, Everest Base Camp 5, 364 m - 6 hrs

The trail today is quite hard due to altitude gain with tremendous views of Mt. Pumori, Lingtrin, Khumbutse, Nupse and Mt. Everest. After few hours of strenuous and scenic walk reaching at Gorakshep through moraine and icy path, Gorakshep houses 5 lodges, this place with the last lodge before Everest Base Camp, after a break here our journey continue to Everest Base Camp walking along then moraine with view of Khumbu Icefall and then reaching at Everest Base Camp. After spending some time at the base camp, return journey back to Gorakshep. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 13Hike to Kalapathar 5,545 m trek to Lobuche - 4 hrs

Morning climb steep uphill to Kalapathar for the most fantastic view of Mt. Everest with other surroundings peaks all the way to south eastern horizon. Kalapatthar at 5,555 m the scenic highest top for a memorable moment and spending some time here a steep downhill back to Gorakshep and continue the journey all the way to Lobuche for lunch. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 14Cross Khongma La 5,535 m to Dingboche 4, 330m - 8 hrs

Today we cross Khongma La, starting very early in the morning, the walk leads to the Khumbu glacier and moraine one has to be careful here on the misleading icy path, from here onwards walking on rocky trail beneath Khongma-la and its peak Kongma or Mehra, after a good rest traverse the Khongma-la pass at 5,535 m / 18,159 ft enclosed between the great Nuptse wall, Mehara and Pokalde peaks, after descending the walk leads on the path to Imjatse wide valley with tremendous scenery of Island peak, Ama Dablam and other surrounding peaks. On reaching at Bibre at Imjatse valley a few hours of pleasant walk brings to Dingboche village. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 15Trek to Tengboche 3,867 m - 5 hrs

Leaving Dingboche with super views of Ama Dablam, Nuptse wall, Lhotse, then heading on the downhill path and back to lower altitude and tree lines, the walk leads down to Pangboche and more climb up to the famed Tengboche Monastery with amazing surrounding scenery. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 16Trek to Monjo 2,880 m through Namche Bazaar – 6 hrs

Morning walk begins with a descend to Dudh Koshi River at Phungitenga, here after crossing the bridge a steep uphill for an hour then with gentle winding walk all the way to Namche Bazaar, from Namche on the downhill path to Dudh Kosi River bank, from here with short ups and downs to reach the Sagarmatha National Park entrance and then Monjo village. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 17Trek to Lukla - 5 hrs

After a memorable trip to Everest base camp, today the last day walk of this wonderful trip, we continue retrace back to Lukla on the gradual winding trail passing Phakding and Ghat village. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 18Morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, Day time free

We will fly back to Kathmandu, and you will be transferred to your hotel. You are free for rest after conquering the Himalayas. Overnight at hotel, breakfast included.

Day 19Departure to international airport

Today you grab last minute shopping or other activities. We will drop you at the Kathmandu international airport 3 hours before your scheduled flight. We will say goodbye with happy memories and hoping to see you again. Breakfast included.
